Ivan lives in France but his origins lie elsewhere in Ukrainia more exactly in Eastern Galicie, the region where all his family still lives. That is the place where he should have been born if the History had been different. Post Berlin's wall era the opening of the frontieres: Ivan decides to travel back to his roots and find again Nimiriv a village sank in the sand during summer and in the mud during winter between a derelict military polygon and a monstrous sulphur processing plant.

Fortunately Ivan has kept the language which has been day after day transmitted by his mother. Round Mykolaï and Katerena the uncle and the aunt, we will see Ivan appropriate again the elements of a discarded culture and commit himself whole hartedly among his family sharing the simple daily activities.

This f'ilm where reality feeds the fiction will help to give a picture of the rural ukrainian world to day with respect and emotion. A harsh world in which links remain strong, a world in which people see one another, relate stories, a world where people have kept the notion of words exchanged of a lended hand given to a neighbour and of all community practices indispensable to the survival of man.

Water has flowed under bridges
You are child of exiles
And you open your eyes to the past
You have scores
to settle with time
Daï bojé
You have kept your language
in order a dim flame
to come to terms with your destiny
rebuild the bridges
and travel towards the past
